The Centre for Reflection has served the wider area as a place to meet and reflect for the past 25 years. It is used by people of all ages and different social, religious and personal backgrounds to reflect on their spiritual journey through life The present building with its welcoming entrance, large windows and quiet garden was shaped in 1999/2000 basing it on the original 1960's church hall.
The result of the phase 1 work will be to provide a warmer, better insulated space, meeting present day expectations of low carbon usage and meeting current building standards. More specifically:
- Much improved insulation in the roof, walls and triple glazed windows
- Solar panels, making use of the extensive south facing roof
- Batteries proving back up renewable power to the Centre and the Church, which are separate buildings
- Renewed kitchen
- Renewed interior decoration scheme
- Renewed lighting, taking account of the many different uses to which the Centre is and will be put: reflection, meeting, workshops, parties, courses, toddlers
- Miscellaneous building work to ensure the building meets present day standards
Phase 1 began in November 2025. After some delays, in part due to discovering additional work required in the existing building and in part due to outside work being impossible in recent weather, this phase is nearly complete and we anticipate that the Centre will be re-opened in late March or early April
Phase 2 will focus on the garden and the current ideas are to consult and rethink the separation between the children's area and the quiet garden while still of course being aware of safety.
